BLACKSBURG, VA - The Winston-Salem State Rams and Lady Rams track & field teams had a great day at the Virginia Tech Challenge where the teams both saw some stellar performances. The Rams and Lady Rams stood out amongst a talented field of teams in one of the team's final meets of the indoor season.
"We had a great meet at Virginia Tech today, the athletes improved on their times," WSSU interim head coach Inez Turner said. WSSU junior Andrew Chebii had the best individual performance, placing sixth in the men's 800m run with a season-best 1:51.76, a time that ranks fourth in the nation according the most recent times posted by the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association.
Lady Rams freshman Kristi Baptiste led the way for the WSSU women's team, placing fifth in the women's 400m dash with a 56.83. Senior Chantelle Bethea placed eighth in the women's 60m dash with a 7.82.
Though the meet is scheduled to be the Rams and Lady Rams' final meet of the season, the team will wait to see which student-athletes will qualify for NCAA Division II nationals.
