Men's Track And Field Finishes 56th FAMU Relays With Five Top-Tens - WINSTON-SALEM STATE OFFICIAL ATHLETIC SITE

TALLAHASSEE, FL - The Winston-Salem State University men's track and field team closed out competition at the 56^th Florida A&M University relays with five top ten finishes in their first collegiate track and field competition in over five years.

The WSSU track and field program, in its first year of resurrection, under the guidance of three-time

Olympian Halcyon M. Blake, returned to the track this weekend at the FAMU Relays for the first time in half of a decade versus very stiff Division I track and field talent.

The men fared very well as Winston-Salem State recorded five top-ten finishes in five separate events.

WSSU' Brandon Wainwright placed tenth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.98 to start the Rams off with a top ten in the day's second event.

Gerrod Sidbury turned in the next top ten as he placed eighth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.31.

Distance specialist Kenneth Koech then followed it up with a ninth place finish in the men's 5000 meter run with a time of 17:12:53.

The Rams' Ezra Yowell turned in a height of 1.97 meters in the men's high jump to finish second, missing a top-place finish by only five-tenths of a meter. The WSSU men's 4x100 meter relay team captured a 4^th place finish with a time of 42.90 to round out the scoring.

The WSSU men's track and field team returns to action on March 17-18, 2006 in Conway, SC at the 2006 Shamrock Invitational.
