WSSU Men's Track And Field Wins Virginia State Multi-Event Explosion

PETERSBURG, VA - The Winston-Salem State University men's track and field team continues their on-track success as they easily won the Virginia State University "Trojan Multi-Event Explosion" track meet in Petersburg, VA over the weekend as they recorded a meet-high 120 points.


 

 

 

The Rams turned in several outstanding performances on the weekend in a meet that was marred by inclement weather which forced event postponements three times.  WSSU tallied 20 top ten finishes as the Rams dominated nearly every event.

 

The men's 100 meter dash was controlled by the Rams who recorded four top-ten finishers as Richard Marcellus and Brock Bynum won the event with a time of 10.96 seconds.  The Rams' Paul Williams recorded a third-place finish with a time of 10.97 seconds and Wayne Crowell recorded a sixth-place finish with a time of 11.56 seconds.

 

The men's 200 meter dash was won by WSSU's Brock Bynum as he turned in a time of 22.72 seconds.  Tyrone Scott and Wayne Crowell finished fifth and sixth respectively with times of 23.38 and 23.60 seconds.

 

The men's 400 meters saw the Rams earn a pair of top-five finishers as Jordan Holley finished fourth (52.30 seconds) and Demetrius Rivers finished fifth (53.33 seconds).

 

WSSU's Cory Wright earned a second-place finish in the men's 800 meters with a time of 2:03.29 only .35 seconds off of the pace.

 

The men's 1500 meters again saw a WSSU domination as the Rams captured second, third and fourth place finishes with Kenneth Koech (4:21.25) earning a second-place finish.  Greg Watts (4:39.53) turned in a third-place time and Corderius Cowans eared a fourth-place finish (4:49.27).

 

The hurdles events were no different as the 110 meter high hurdles event was won by the Rams' Ezra Yowell who turned in a first-place finish of 15.45 seconds.  Brandon Wainwright was less than a second behind with a third-place finish (15.93 seconds).

 

The Ram relay teams continued to burn up the track as WSSU earned a win in the 4x100 meter relay (43.45 seconds) and earned a place and show finish in the 4x400 meter relay (3:26.75 seconds and 3:35.05 seconds).

 

The Rams easily won the meet as they placed first in a field of seven teams.  Team results are listed below. 

 

WSSU returns to the track on April 21 and 22, 2006 at the 2006 CIAA Men's Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Petersburg, VA.
