GREENSBORO, NC - The Winston-Salem State Rams and Lady Rams put a bow on the 2009 season with a great effort at the Aggie & Tar Heel Classic, a meet held in dual locations with the sprint events taking place at the Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C. while distance and field events were held at the Fetzer Field in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Freshman sprinter Denesha Jiles got things off to a great start for the Lady Rams, finishing second in the women's 100m dash. She qualified for the finals with a 12.32 in the preliminaries of the event and finished second in the finals in 12.38. She followed the effort with a seventh-place finish in the women's 200m dash in 25.72.
The Lady Rams upperclassmen also had a great effort with Senior Sandy Harrison leading the way with a seventh-placed finish in the women's 400m dash in 57.94. Junior Jessica Peaks capped the day with a sixth-place finish in the women's high jump with a 1.52m (4'11.75").
The Rams also saw some great efforts by WSSU upperclassmen. As he had done for his entire career, senior sprinter Gerrod Sidbury led the way for the Rams with a second place finish in the men's 400m dash with a 48.31 in the event. Sophomore Mark Brown also had his best finish of the outdoor season with a third-place finish in the men's discus throw at 39.39m (129'3").
Freshman sprinter Bobby Grier also had a great day as well, placing fifth in the men's 200m dash in 22.11.
