WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State University track & field teams will not have far to travel for their next action as the team will be among the field of 48 teams that will take part in the 2007 Wake Forest Open Classic Track & Field meet. The meet hosted by crosstown rival Wake Forest at Kentner Stadium will give the Rams and Lady Rams a chance to perform in front of a hometown crowd and should produce some top marks for the team.
The field at the meet will be one of the most competitive of the season as both the Rams and Lady Rams will line up against teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Big East, the Southeastern Conference, and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Syracuse, Miami, UNC-Chapel Hill, N.C. State, and Tennessee all highlight the field at the meet.

Sophomore distance runner Irene Jeptolo had the best finish for the Lady Rams last weekend finishing third in the women's 3000m steeplechase in a time of 11:54.43. Sophomore sprinter Gerrod Sidbury had the best individual finish for the Rams finishing sixth in the men's 400m dash in 00:49.30.
The Rams and Lady Rams will open competition on Friday at 2:45 p.m. when the Lady Rams take part in the women's 400m dash, followed by the men's 400m dash and the 100m preliminaries.
