Rams, Lady Rams Stand Out in Crowded Field at International Friendship & Freedom Games

GREENSBORO, NC - The Winston-Salem State track & field teams stood out in a crowded field this weekend as the team took part in the International Friendship and Freedom Games on Friday and Saturday. The event, which featured participants from both youth, high school, collegiate, and open classes in the meet, was sponsored by the Greensboro Convention and Visitors Bureau.

 

The teams faced some top notch competition in the event, facing participants from the University of South Carolina, North Carolina A&T, Hampton, and Campbell as well as several post-collegiate competitors.

 

As with the rest of the season, the WSSU relay teams continue to impress as the Rams won the men's 4x200m relay in a time of 1:00.00. Sophomores Brock Bynum, Jordan Holley, and Richard Marcellus joined WSSU's Brandon Howe in the event. The Lady Rams 4x200m relay team had the best finish of the meet for WSSU finishing third in the event with a time of 1:39.00. Sophomore Wykethia Barnett, freshman Javonna Brown, sophomore Sandy Harrison, and Gerri-Lena White ran the four legs of the event. The same four ran the women's 4x100m relay finishing sixth in the event in a time of 00:47.89.

 

WSSU sophomore Sandy Harrison had the best individual finish for the Lady Rams placing 13th in the collegiate women's 400m dash. senior sprinter Gerrod Sidbury had the best individual finish for the Rams finishing 17th in the collegiate men's 400m dash in a time of 00:47.90.

 

Both of the Winston-Salem State track & field teams will return to action this weekend in one of the premier events in collegiate track & field when take part in the 113th running of the Penn Relays this weekend in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
