Winston-Salem, NC - Winston-Salem State University Athletic Officials announced on Wednesday that Head Track and Field Coach Benny Morgan has added seven assistant coaches to the newly reinstated WSSU Track and Field programs that will return to CIAA competition in 2005 for the first time, after a five-year layoff.
Morgan, who continues to build the men's and women's track and field programs added the seven coaches, all of whom will be volunteer assistant coaches, to his already loaded roster of recent signed recruits.
Eric Cabbell joins the WSSU track and field programs as the throwing coach. He comes to WSSU by way of Liberty University.
Marcus Sutton joins the Rams and Lady Rams as the jumping coach. He comes to WSSU by way of the University of South Carolina.
Gerald Martin, an accomplished sprinter in his own right, comes to WSSU by way of Appalachian State University and will serve as the men's sprint coach.
Celia Majors joins the Lady Rams as the women's sprint coach. She comes to WSSU by way of the University of New Haven.
Jimmy Burchette will serve a throwing coach and will serve as a cross-country assistant. He comes to WSSU by way of High Point University.
Lashawn Gee will serve as the coach of the hurdlers and will serve as a cross-country assistant. She comes to WSSU by way of UNC-Chapel Hill.
Speaking about the continued improvement of the fledgling track and cross-country programs, WSSU Director of Athletics, Dr. Chico Caldwell said the following:
"Benny continues to add quality people to our cross-country and track and field programs. He has added these seven stellar individuals to our program, and we are delighted with the expertise that they bring to out student-athletes. We are certainly grateful that all seven of these coaches are volunteering their services to the University and to our student-athletes, and we look forward to a great season."
