CARY, NC – The Winston-Salem State University cross country teams had another solid day, Friday afternoon when the teams took part in the 2012 adidas Cross Country Challenge hosted by North Carolina State University. Both the Rams and Lady Rams teams had solid efforts in their 5K runs at the Wake Med Soccer Park, the site of the Lady Rams' back-to-back Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championships.
The Lady Rams opened the day with a solid effort, placing fifth at the event, and first among CIAA teams at the event. As a team, the Lady Rams totaled a score of 174. WSSU senior JuaShanna Kelly led the way for the Lady Rams with a 50th place finish in the event. She finished the 5K course in 20:31.4. Freshman Danisha Wiggins added a 56th place finish with a 20:58.5.
The Rams had a solid effort as well. As a team, the Rams placed seventh in the event. The Rams totaled 220 points in the event, surpassing a pair of CIAA teams. WSSU senior Andrew Chebii led the way for the Rams with a 34th-place finish in 16:35.9. Fellow senior Fabian White placed 60th with an 18:07.1.
The WSSU cross country teams will return to action next weekend when the teams take part in the 29th Annual Greensboro Invitational at Hagan Stone Park in nearby Greensboro, N.C.
