Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Cross-Country programs were able to earn a split in a dual-meet with the visiting Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University on Wednesday.

The WSSU men's cross-country team fell to the Golden Bulls by the narrowest of margins, as JCSU squeaked out the match victory 28-27. However, the Rams' Darnell Gregory (So./6'5"/200/Fayetteville, NC) did finish in first place, pacing all runners as he clocked in with a time of 19:33. The Golden Bulls placed second and third, and WSSU's Robert Lee (So./6'1/205/Snow Hill, NC) finished fourth, rounding out the Rams' who finished in the top five.

On the women's side of things, the Lady Rams were able to do what their male counterparts were not, as they held on for the one-point victory 27-28. Though the Lady Golden Bulls' Joi Surrat placed first with a comfortable 33-second margin of victory, the Lady Rams were able to capture second, third, and fourth place en route to a victory. Setting the pace for the Lady Rams was freshman Kadina Baldwin (Fr./Fayetteville, NC), as she registered a time of 22:33 for the three-mile course.

The Lady Rams improve to 1-0 overall, (1-0 CIAA), while the Rams fall to 0-1 overall (0-1 CIAA). Both teams return to action next Wednesday, September 17th as they will travel to Charlotte, NC to have a rematch with Johnson C. Smith. The starting gun is scheduled to go off promptly at 3:00 pm.
