Spartanburg, SC - Under new head Coach Benny Morgan, the Winston-Salem State University Rams' men's cross-country team ran to a 14th place finish on Saturday afternoon at the Eye-Opener Cross-Country Invitational en route to a better showing than eight of the invitational's 22 team participants.
The Rams would see all but one of their five qualifiers place 100th or better as the Rams captured the 96th, 89th, 63rd, and 20th place finishers.
Kenneth Koech would turn in the Rams' best finish on the afternoon as he would place 20th, crossing the finish line, and completing the 8k (5 mile) course in 28:27.
The next closest Ram finisher was Greg Watts who finished the course in 31:01, earning him a 63rd place finish.
Twenty-two seconds would separate the next two Rams runners as Jerrod Sidberry earned an 89th place finish with a time of 32:25 and his teammate Cory Wright turned in a 96th place finish with a time of 32:47.
Rounding out the Ram roster was Jordan Holley who finished 176th on the morning with a time of 41:51.
With the combined effort, the Rams would earn a 14th place finish to open the season. WSSU returns to action on Friday, September 9th, 2005 when they will travel to Wilmington, NC to compete in the UNC-Wilmington Open.
