RALEIGH, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Rams and Lady Rams had some great performances at the 2008 Adidas Wolfpack Invitational. Both teams battled hot and humid conditions to post some solid performances in the event. The Rams finished sixth out of 14 teams while the Lady Rams finished fifth out of 12 teams competing. As a team, the Lady Rams totaled 1:51:22.0 in the while the Rams timed 1:31:48.00 in the 5K event.
"We had some really great performances today," WSSU head coach Halcyon Blake said. "Today we competed against a field of teams that included a number of NCAA Division I teams and had some great times. I am really proud of the way our kids handled themselves in this event."
The Lady Rams continued to show the growth and development of the program with several great finishes. As a team, the Lady Rams totaled WSSU senior Irene Jeptolo continued to lead the way for the Lady Rams with a 13th place finish in the event. She finished the event in 13th place, posting a 19:47.00 in the event.
The future of Lady Rams cross country continues to shine brightly, with freshman Jasmine Whitener, who continues to have some impressive performances right away for the Lady Rams, finished in 34th place in the event with a 21:27.00. Fellow freshman Ashley Lawson finished 49th in the event in 22:51.00.
"Irene did as well as she usually does, but she also had two freshmen helping her as well," Blake added.
The men's team had its share of promising performances by the Rams freshmen as well. WSSU freshman Desmond Wiggan led the way for the team, placing 16th in the event in 16:30.00, barely beating out fellow Ram sophomore Aaron Barnes, who placed 17th in 16:41.00.

The Rams and Lady Rams will head south for their next competition when the team takes part in the Winthrop Cross Country Invitational in Rock Hill, South Carolina next weekend.
