Winston-Salem, NC - The visiting runners from Johnson C. Smith University bested the Rams of Winston-Salem State University on Monday afternoon in Winston-Salem, NC by the score of 34-21 behind a stellar effort that saw the Golden Bulls capture the gold, silver, and bronze slots en route to an important CIAA victory.
The Rams who were running their first race of the season, fell behind in the early going and were never able to regroup as the Golden Bulls pulled in front for the duration of the race.
The race, which was originally scheduled for last Thursday afternoon, was rescheduled due to heavy rains that the Piedmont experienced during the aftermath of a recent hurricane.
The postponement did not seem to trouble Johnson C. Smith as they placed first, second, third, fifth and tenth.
The top performer for the Rams was Adrian Harrison who turned in a fourth-place showing with a time of 31:28 on the five mile course.
With the loss the Rams fall to 0-1 overall (0-1 CIAA) and return to action on September 15th, 2004 when they travel to Charlotte, NC to square off against the Golden Bulls in a rematch race.
