Sept. 23, 2004
Salisbury, NC - The Winston-Salem State University men's cross-country team used a strong showing and solid team effort to easily run past the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University at the Livingstone College Salisbury 8K Invitational, but fell to the host-team Blue Bears to close the day's activities with an impressive CIAA league-match split.
The Rams, who were paced by freshman Darrell Wonge turned in one of the most impressive team running performances in WSSU history. Wonge, who placed eighth overall, crossed the finish line in 31:22, se the pace for the pack of Ram runners as he pushed his teammates toward the victory over JCSU.
The remainder of the Ram runners crossed the finish line in 12th place (Norman Carter), 13th (Lowen Wray), 13th (Adrian Harrison), and 16th (Curtis Hines) to help secure the win.
Despite the impressive showing, and the easy victory over the Golden Bulls, the Rams were unable to catch the Blue Bears. Livingstone not only captured the gold and silver positions but placed all five of their runners in the top seven slots to earn an easy victory over both the Rams and the Golden Bulls.
The Rams will return to action on Saturday, September 25th as they travel to Greensboro, NC to participate in the Greensboro Invitational.
