Wingate, NC - Winston-Salem State University's Kenneth Koech (Litein, Kenya) placed 38th at the Division II Men's Cross Country Southeast Regionals on Saturday afternoon in Wingate, NC as he completed the 10k course (6.2 miles) in a time of 36:36:00. Livingstone College's Darius Shade won the event with a time of 32:14.
Koech, a freshman from Litein Kenya (Chebisaas Boy's School) was the only Ram to qualify for the 108-person field, and was one of only three CIAA runners to earn top 40 finishes as he made history by becoming the first WSSU men's cross country runner in history to appear in a post-season event.
Shade, a sophomore at CIAA member Livingstone College followed up his CIAA title with a regional championship as he bettered the field by 1:15 as Mars Hill's Jon Stoehr placed second with a time of 33:29.

Koech finishes his first season with the Rams with a sixth place CIAA Championship finish, and a 38th place finish at the NCAA regionals marking the most successful season by any WSSU cross country runner in the history of the program. Under the leadership of head coach Benny Morgan, Koech and his Ram teammates will look to continue to build on the successes that this first-year program has had in 2005.
