Winston-Salem, NC - WSSU cross country runners Irene Jeptolo (Fr./Kapsabet, Kenya) and Kenneth Koech (Fr./Litein, Kenya) were selected as the WSSU Crown Trophy Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 4th, 2005 for their impressive athletic performances over the past seven days.
Koech and Jeptolo were responsible for the strong showings of the men's and women's cross country teams respectively, this past weekend at the Eye Opener Meet in Spartanburg, SC.
Jeptolo, a freshman from Kapsabet, Kenya, turned in the best finish in WSSU cross-country history as she recorded a 10th-place finish, completing the 5k course (3.1 miles) in 19:54.
Koech, a freshman from Litein, Kenyan, turned in a 20th-place finish for the Rams as he finished the 8k course (5 miles) in 28:27. The finish marked the best finish by a Ram cross-country runner in the history of the fledgling program.
