  • Rams' Season Ends With Hard-Fought 68-54 Loss to #12 Virginia Union

    CHARLOTTE, NC – One of their most impressive performances of the season was not quite enough for the Winston-Salem State Rams (14-14) when the team took a hard-fought 68-54 loss to the #12 Virginia Union Lady Panthers (23-3) in the quarterfinal round of the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament. The Rams took the loss in spite of a tremendous performance that saw the team led for 24 of the 40 minutes played.
  • Big Second Half Lifts Rams to 50-41 Win Over Elizabeth City State in Opening Round of 2017 CIAA Tournament

    CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (14-13) needed a big second half to take a 50-41 win over the Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings (5-18), Tuesday afternoon. After taking a 21-18 deficit into the locker room at halftime, the Rams outscored the Lady Vikings, 32-20 to claim the victory and to advance to the quarterfinal round of the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament.

    CHARLOTTE, NC – After a successful regular season, the honors came in for the Winston-Salem State Rams women’s basketball team when junior center Kandace Tate was selected for the 2017 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) All-Conference team. She was selected as a member of the All-CIAA frontcourt and was the only WSSU player selected to the team.

    SALISBURY, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (13-13, 9-7 CIAA) could not find the answers when the team took a 92-79 road loss to the Livingstone Lady Blue Bears (13-12, 9-7 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. There was no shortage of effort for the Rams in the tough loss, especially in the second half, but the team was outgunned by the aggressive, uptempo play of the Lady Blue Bears.

    CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams women’s basketball team beat the odds when the team earned a third-place seeding from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division for the upcoming 2017 CIAA Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament. The Rams earned the seeding after a successful 2016-17 regular season where the team posted 6-4 record in division play and a 13-13 overall record.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (13-12, 9-6 CIAA) came up short in 76-60 loss to the Johnson C. Smith Lady Golden Bulls (19-6, 12-3 CIAA) in a key Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division game, Wednesday evening. The Rams gave a solid effort, but turnovers and an aggressive JCSU offensive attack proved to be too much to overcome in the tough loss.

The win saw the Rams put on their most impressive offensive showing of the season as the team heads down the final stretch of the regular season.

    RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (12-11, 8-5 CIAA) had a solid overall effort, but the team could not make the plays they needed when they took a 66-60 loss to the Shaw Lady Bears (9-16, 6-7 CIAA), Wednesday evening. For the second time this season, the Rams the Lady Bears played a very close contest, but this time, it was the Lady Bears who made the key plays.

The Rams benefitted from some timely defense and a strong late run to secure their second straight win and their seventh win in the last eight games.

The Rams utilized a scorching hot offensive effort to take control of the game from the very beginning and never looked back.

Both teams took things to the limit, but in the end, the Rams could not quite overcome some free throw line struggles and some costly turnovers in a heartbreaking loss that ended the Rams’ five-game winning streak.

After holding the Lady Golden Bulls to a slow start to the game, WSSU senior forward Jasmine Carter nailed a pair of huge baskets in the final seconds to lead the team to its fifth straight win.
