WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The young Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team fell victim to an experience-laden Delaware State University Lady Hornets squad on Monday evening at the Coliseum Annex as the defending MEAC champions defeated the Lady Rams 49-27 in a MEAC league women's basketball contest.

The Hornets started the contest on a 14-6 run over the game's first seven-plus minutes of play and never trailed the Lady Rams as they sprinted their way to their sixth win of the 2007-08 season, keeping WSSU winless in the process.

Following the early run by Delaware State the Lady Rams would cut the lead to no fewer than 10 points for the remainder of the contest as DSU built their lead to as many as a game-high 27 points.

WSSU would again have difficulties shooting as the Lady Rams connected on only 10 field goals in the contest as they posted a 25 percent shooting percentage (10 of 40) against the Lady Hornets, a team that leads the MEAC in scoring defense.

The contest did have its bright spots for the young Lady Rams as freshman Nora Campbell, who has been plagued by injuries that have limited her production for most of the season, had a break out game with six points and seven rebounds in 39 minutes of action.

Campbell was joined by Jalesa Byrd and Vontisha Woods who all recorded solid games on the glass with seven and a team-high eight rebounds respectively.

WSSU was led in points by Rene Rector who recorded eight points in the loss.  Delaware State was led by Raquel Collier who posted a game-high 12 points in the win as she would be the only player on either team to collect double-digit point totals.

The win drops the Lady Rams to a winless 0-12 on the season while the Lady Hornets move to 6-7 overall with the win.

WSSU returns to action on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 5:30 pm as they play host to the Bison of Howard University.
