Hardy's Timely Baskets Spell Doom For Lady Rams As They Fall To Bowie State 74-70

Jan. 29, 2005

Final Stats

Winston-Salem, NC - What started out to be such a promising season has developed into one of frustration as of late as the Lady Rams dropped their fourth straight game on Saturday afternoon at the C.E. Gaines Center as they fell in defeat to the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University in a CIAA intra-division women's basketball game by the score of 74-70 to fall to 10-8 overall (2-5 CIAA, 1-2 CIAA West) in the process.

The Lady Bulldogs would control the contest from the game's opening tip as they jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and would never look back as the Lady Rams would come up just short all afternoon long.

Bowie State led by as many as 11 points in the first half of play as Clarice Kent recorded a team-high nine first half points as well as pulling down three rebounds in the game's first 20-minutes of play.

The Lady Rams would shoot an icy 32.4% from the field in the half, connecting on only 11 of their 34 field goal attempts as they headed to the locker room trailing the visiting Lady Bulldogs 33-27 at the halftime intermission.

The second half of play would be a more even contest as the Lady Rams would battle back to get within striking distance of the Lady Bulldogs on several occasions. WSSU would cut the Bowie State lead to three points or less seven different times, and all seven times the Lady Rams would watch 2004-05 CIAA Player of the Year candidate Allyson Hardy take over the game and increase her team's lead back up.

It would be Hardy's timely baskets that would ultimately prove to be the game's deciding factor. The Rams had no answer for the two-time All-CIAA performer as she tallied 26 points, nine rebounds, three steals and six assists in 38 minutes of work to lead all scorers.

Hardy led four Lady Bulldogs in double figures as Bowie State improved to 10-8 overall, 5-3 in the CIAA and remained at 1-2 in the Eastern Division.

The Lady Rams, who fall to 10-8 overall, 2-5 in the CIAA and remain at 1-2 in the CIAA West were led by Janet Robinson's 20 points in a losing effort. She was joined in double figures by Tiffany Tonkins and Nikki Eason who recorded 10-points each, and by Latoya Armstrong who had 15 points. Shalonda Carter turned in her seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Rams return to action on February 1st, 2005 at 5:30 pm as they travel to Fayetteville, NC to face the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State University in a CIAA Western Division match-up. Game time is slated for 5:30 pm.
