DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (2-19) fell short in a 74-40 road loss to the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats (10-10), Monday evening. The junior guard tandem of Rene Rector and Nikki Kee combined for seven of the team's 14 shots made in the loss.

Though the Lady Rams kept the game close at times, but offensive dry spells doomed the Lady Rams in the tough loss. It was Kee who led the Lady Rams with a game-high 17 points in the loss. Rector added seven points as well.

The game was a battle early on with the two teams playing to a 7-7 tie after the first five minutes of play. However, the allowed seven unanswered points to the Lady Wildcats that left WSSU in a 14-7 deficit with just over 13 minutes left in the first half. The Lady Rams were able to work their way back into the game down the stretch of the half as a Rector free throw pulled the Lady Rams within four points, 18-14 with just under nine minutes left in the half. The final minutes of the half saw the WSSU deficit swell to 14 points with Bethune-Cookman scoring 10 unanswered points to put the Lady Rams behind, 28-14 with 3:02 left in the half. Though the Lady Rams would manage to put up eight points in the final three minutes of the half, the team ended up taking a 35-22 deficit into the locker room at the half. Though the team had a solid first half effort, the Lady Rams struggled mightily in the second half with just 18 points in the period to end the night with the tough loss.

The Lady Rams will get a taste of home cooking in their next action when they host the Hampton Lady Pirates in a Saturday game at the C.E.
