Final Stats

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University could not hang on to a lead that grew to as many as 16 points as a 16-4 second-half run propelled Johnson C. Smith University to a come-from-behind 61-58 victory over WSSU in CIAA women's basketball action from Brayboy Gymnasium in Charlotte, NC on Saturday evening.

The Lady Rams, who took an 11-point lead to the halftime intermission leading 36-25 over the regionally-ranked Lady Golden Bulls, took over four minutes to record their first field goal of the second half as JCSU mounted a comeback that would ultimately lead to the victory.

The Lady Golden Bulls mounted their impressive 16-4 run over the course of seven minutes midway through the second half as the two teams battled back and forth for the majority of the second period of play.

JCSU eventually took a five-point lead, from which the Lady Rams would never recover, with 2:26 to play in the contest as they secured the victory, their 16th of the season and 11th win in the CIAA.

WSSU was led by Shalonda Carter who tallied 15 points and seven assists in the losing effort.  She was the only Lady Ram player to score in double figures.

The Lady Golden Bulls were led by Tiana Pope who tallied a game-high 19 points in the win.  She led four JCSU players into double figures including Rochelle Bodie who recorded 11 points and 14 rebounds.

With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 7-18 overall and drop to 2-11 in the CIAA.  The Lady Golden Bulls move to 16-7 overall and improve to 11-1 in the CIAA with the win.
