Cold Shooting First Half Leads To Lady Rams Loss To Livingstone 56-51

Feb. 15, 2005

Final Stats

Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams could not recover from a cold shooting first half in which they shot only 15.4% from the field, connecting on only four of their 26 shots during the first period of play as they fell in defeat to the Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College by the score of 56-51 to fall to 12-12 on the season (3-9 CIAA).

The first half of play was not a good one for the Lady Rams as WSSU was able to tally only 11 total points during the games' first 20 minutes as they missed 22 of their 26 field-goal attempts to shoot an unimpressive 15.4% from the field.

Luckily for the Lady Rams, they were able to use solid defense to hold the home-team Lady Blue Bears to only 24 points during the first period as they would head to the locker room for halftime intermission trailing 24-11.

The second half was much better for the Lady Rams as they outscored the Lady Blue Bears 40-32, yet the game's final margin would go in favor of Livingstone by the score of 56-51.

The Lady Rams' downfall would ultimately be their lack of offense in the contest as they would shoot a collective 32.8% in the game, connecting on only 20 of 61 total shots, en route to scoring only 51 points, 40 of which would come in the second half.

Despite forcing 31 Livingstone College turnovers, the Lady Rams would benefit from only one player in double-figure scoring as Latoya Armstrong led WSSU with 11 points. Shalonda Carter tallied nine points and 12 rebounds in the loss as well.

Livingstone College was led by Love Brown and Sheree Gillespie who each chipped in with 16 points, as Brown added nine rebounds in the win.

With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 12-12 overall, and fall to 3-9 in the CIAA (2-5 CIAA West).

WSSU returns to action on February 20th 2005 at 2:00 pm as they play host to the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State University at the LJVM Coliseum.
