CHARLOTTE, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams were unable to capitalize on three shot attempts in the final 10 seconds of a game that saw them trail the Bowie State Lady Bulldogs by only one point as BSU earned a 52-51 win over WSSU to end the Lady Rams' season in CIAA Tournament first-round action from Charlotte Bobcats Arena on Monday evening.

The Lady Rams led for the majority of the first 20 minutes of play as they forced 13 Bowie State University turnovers and shot 40.7% from the field (11 of 27 overall) en route to a five-point lead headed to the locker room at halftime.

WSSU took their five point advantage, leading 28-23 at the half, and immediately added to the cushion in the second half as they started the period with a 4-0 run to pull ahead by nine points at 32-23.

Despite the nine-point deficit, the Lady Bulldogs would not roll over for the Lady Rams as Bowie State mounted a run of their own as they earned their first lead of the second half  at 41-40 with 10:34 to play in the contest.

The very next stretch of the game would prove to be unkind to the Lady Rams as WSSU would go a full five minutes without a field goal as Bowie State pulled ahead by as many as five points as WSSU fell behind with just under three minutes to play.

Another WSSU run would get them as close as trailing by only one point with seven-tenths of a second remaining in the contest, as the Lady Rams would look for the final shot of the game to earn the win.

The Lady Rams were unable to get a shot off as BSU ended WSSU's season by the final score of 52-51.

Bowie State improves to 13-14 overall with the win while the Lady Rams end the season with an overall record of 7-18.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs advance to face the top-seeded Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at 7:00 pm in second-round CIAA Women's Championship Tournament action from Charlotte Bobcats Arena in Charlotte, NC.
