Final Stats

Winston-Salem, NC - The Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University defeated the Barton College Lady Bulldogs 73-62 in the second and final game of day one action from the 2005 Lady Rams Basketball Classic in Winston-Salem, NC.

The Lady Rams, who extend their win streak to two games and open the season 2-0 for the third consecutive year under Head Coach John Williams, jumped out to an early lead on the Lady Bulldogs in front of 2,201 fans at the C.E. Gaines Center on Friday evening.

WSSU raced out to the early lead, leading by as many as 15 points during first half action en route to a comfortable 12 point lead at the halftime intermission as they headed to the locker room leading 41-29 in the contest.

Despite weathering a four minute stretch in the second half where WSSU would not record a field goal, the Lady Rams continued to keep their lead in the double digits as they held on for a 73-62 victory to move to 2-0 on the season.

WSSU was led by Shalonda "Baby Shaq" Carter who paced four Lady Ram scorers in double-digits with 12 points on five of six shooting with five rebounds.  Tiffany Tonkins chipped in with 11 points and Latoya Armstrong and Janet Robinson each added 10 points.

Barton was led by Keauna Vinson who recorded 12 points in the loss.  She also added 10 rebounds to lead all rebounders in the contest.

With the win, the Lady Rams improve to 2-0 overall (0-0 CIAA) while the Lady Bulldogs fall to 0-1 on the season.

Both teams return to action on Saturday afternoon as Barton will face North Carolina Central, who earned a 20-point win over the Lady Bobcats of Georgia College & State University earlier in the evening, at 2:00 pm.  WSSU will face those same Bobcats at 4:00 pm.
