Nov. 19, 2004

Final Stats

Winston-Salem, NC - Shalonda Carter (So./Fayetteville, NC) led four Lady Rams in double-figure scoring with 16 points on Friday evening as the Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team downed the Bluefield State College Lady Blues 76-54 in opening-round action of the 2004 Lady Ram Invitational basketball tournament at the C.E. Gaines Center in Winston-Salem, NC.

The Lady Blues scored the opening basket of the game on a lay-up by Tiona Harris to pull ahead 2-0 but would relinquish the lead and never regain it only 11 seconds later on a Tiffany Tonkins (Jr./Greensboro, NC) turnaround jumper in the paint that tied the contest.

Cherena Douglass (Fr./Springfield, IL) put the Lady Rams up for good when she tacked on two free throws only 56 seconds later, and the WSSU rout was officially on en route to a 22-point victory.

Carter was joined in double figures by four Lady Rams as Kadina Baldwin (So./Fayetteville, NC) tallied 12 points and seven assists, Nikki Eason (Sr./Greenville, SC) recorded nine points and a team-high ten rebounds, and Latoya Armstrong (So./Rocky Mount, NC) chipped in with ten points.

With the offensive outburst, the Lady Rams had three starters in double figures, and one starter with nine points for one of the most even offensive performances of the John Williams era.

The Lady Blues were led by Amy Brewer who tallied 18 points in a losing effort.

With the victory the Lady Rams improve to .500 on the season at 1-1 overall (0-0 CIAA) while the Lady Blues fall to 0-2 (0-0 WVIAC) with the loss.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Bluefield State battles North Carolina Central at 2:00 pm and the Lady Rams face off against the CIAA's Saint Paul's College Lady Tigers in a non-conference tilt at 4:00 pm.
