WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State women's basketball team returned to action on Thursday evening at the C.E. Gaines Center after a 10-day layoff and it showed as the Lady Rams missed their first six shots and allowed visiting Elon to open the game with a 28-4 run en route to falling in defeat to the Phoenix by the score of 71-36 in a women's non-conference basketball contest.

The Lady Rams would need five minutes and seven seconds to record their first points of the game as Vontisha Woods broke the WSSU scoring drought at the 14:53 mark with a steal and a lay-up.

Elon shot nearly 60 percent from the field as they successfully converted 14 of their 24 (.583) first-half field goals attempts while holding the Lady Rams to a chilly 29.6 percent shooting during the game's first 20 minutes of play en route to leading WSSU 32-15 at halftime.
Second half action nearly mirrored the first 20 minutes of play as the Lady Rams missed 13 of their first 14 shots while Elon pushed their 17-point halftime lead to an insurmountable 35 points only 8:18 into the second half following a 20-2 run that opened the second period of play.
WSSU's Nora Campbell closed the contest by scoring the final six points for the Lady Rams yet it was not enough as WSSU dropped their seventh consecutive game.
