WSSU's Comeback Falls Short; Lady Rams Drops A 61-56 To USC-Aiken

Dec. 31, 2006

Final Stats

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Kadina Baldwin's 23 points were not enough to guarantee the Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University a celebration on New Year's Eve as the Lady Pacers of USC-Aiken handed WSSU a 61-56 defeat at the C.E. Gaines Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Pacers jumped out to an early seven-point lead less than five minutes into the contest as USC-Aiken never trailed in the game.

USC-Aiken increased their lead to as many as 16 points with 2:10 left in the first half of play as they took a 12-point cushion to the locker room at halftime, leading their Lady Ram hosts 38-26.

Second-half action saw the Lady Rams cut the USC-Aiken lead to eight points seven times in the half, eventually shaving their deficit to as little as six points with 2:33 left to play in the contest.

A pair of Megan Starnes free throws would seal WSSU's fate as the Lady Rams dropped the five-point decision to the Lady Pacers.

Kadina Baldwin led the Lady Rams with 23 points, including three three-pointers, to lead all scorers.  Baldwin added four rebounds, five assists, and two steals in the losing effort.  Joining Baldwin in double figures was Shalonda Carter who recorded 15 points and nine rebounds.

USC-Aiken was led by three players who tallied 11 points in the contest as Mindy Allee, Meredith Legg, and Nola Grant all scored in double-digits.

The loss drops the Lady Rams to 4-13 overall while USC-Aiken improves to 7-3 with the win.  WSSU returns to action on January 4, 2006 as they face the Yellow Jackets of Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia.
