WSSU Athletics Announces Pair Of Basketball Game Changes

Jan. 20, 2006

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Department of Athletics announced on Friday that the WSSU versus Fayetteville State University basketball games that were originally scheduled for Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 5:30 and 7:30 PM in Fayetteville, NC have been moved to Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 1:00 and 4:05 PM due to television broadcast specifications.

The Lady Rams were slated to face the Lady Broncos on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 5:30 PM and will now face Fayetteville State that very next day on Sunday, February 19, 2006 at 1:00 PM.

The Rams will follow the women's team at 4:05 PM as they face the Broncos at Capel Arena in a televised game (ESPN Plus and ESPN Full Court) marking the third time in four seasons that the Broncos versus Rams match-up has been shown on television.

"The decision to move the games to Sunday was one that was two-fold.  The men's contest had to be moved to the 19th of February in order to accommodate the television broadcast window that had been set up for the game.  That decision was dictated solely by television.   Following television's decision to show the men's game on Sunday, the decision to move the women's game was nearly a foregone conclusion, and after discussions with Dr. Major Boyd, (Fayetteville State University Director of Athletics) we both decided that moving the women's game to Sunday was the best decision in terms of both fiscal responsibility and in terms of convenience for our fans, so as to allow them to watch both contests in our conference's traditional men's-women's doubleheader format." WSSU Director of Athletics, Dr. Chico Caldwell stated following the announcement.

The Fayetteville State University game changes are not the only games that have been altered this season as Caldwell stressed the need for Ram fans to be mindful of the changes to the pair of North Carolina Central University versus WSSU games.

The changes, made prior to the start of the 2005-06 season, and which are correct on all of WSSU's basketball publications (schedule posters, schedule magnets, billboards,  WSSURAMS.com, and all other WSSU basketball information) notate that the Rams will face North Carolina Central in Durham, NC on February 4, 2006 and will face the Eagles and Lady Eagles in Winston-Salem, NC at the Joel Coliseum Annex on February 21, 2006.  Both set of doubleheaders will feature the women taking the court at 5:30 PM with the men's contests at 7:30 PM.
