Lawrenceville, VA - Winston-Salem State University Athletic Department officials announced on Saturday that due to inclement weather in the state of Virginia, the pair of WSSU basketball games that were to be played versus Saint Paul's starting at 2:00 pm today, have been postponed. A make-up date has yet to be announced.
A band of severe weather over the state of Virginia has dropped in excess of four inches of snow and freezing rain over the Lawrenceville, VA area making road conditions treacherous thereby prompting Athletic Department officials from both schools to decide to postpone the intra-division contest.
"First and foremost, this is a decision based upon safety. Our primary concern is the safety of both institution's student-athletes, and looking at the current weather situation over the Lawrenceville area, and considering the projected forecasts, we [WSSU Athletic Department Officials and Saint Paul's Athletic Officials] have decided not to play the game this afternoon. We will work on a make-up date that fits both school's schedules and play this game when the travel conditions are safer."
