Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Department of Athletics announced on Monday that men's basketball player Frank Johnson (Washington, DC) and women's basketball player Shalonda Carter (Fayetteville, NC) have been named the Crown Trophy-WSSU Student Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 6th, 2005 for their recent on-court performances over the last seven days.

Carter, a sophomore forward on the WSSU women's basketball team had another productive week as she led the Lady Rams with a pair of double-doubles, her 17th and 18th double-doubles of her WSSU career. Carter scored 26 points and pulled down 18 rebounds versus Fayetteville State on Tuesday and followed it up with a 20-point, 17-rebound performance on Saturday at North Carolina Central. She now has a three-game streak of double-doubles, and will look to record her fourth straight on Tuesday versus Saint Augustine's College.

Frank Johnson Was Selected As The Crown Trophy-WSSU Male Student Athlete Of The Week

Johnson, a junior guard on the WSSU men's basketball team helped to lead the Rams to a pair of wins this past week as WSSU downed Fayetteville State on the road and defeated North Carolina Central in Durham, NC in overtime on Saturday. Johnson recorded five points in the win over Fayetteville State and followed it up with a 10-point and four-rebound performance in an overtime win over North Carolina Central. Johnson hit a pair of timely three-pointers in overtime versus the Eagles to help the Rams to the win.
