WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams wrapped up their 2007 signing class with the addition of 6'2" center Nora Campbell. The WSSU women's basketball has been busy this year signing 10 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.
Last season, Campbell averaged 14.9 points per game to go along with averaging eight rebounds and two blocked shots per game. Campbell is a native of Long Island, New York where she played at St. Anthony's High School. She is the first women's basketball player at her school to earn an NCAA Division I scholarship in 15 years.
"Nora is an extremely hard worker and has not fouled out in a game in 2 years while blocking a lot of shots, which means she has great quickness and technique." St. Anthony's High School head coach Tony Romeo said.
The addition of Campbell brings some much needed height to the Lady Rams squad that lost senior Shalonda Carter, the team's leading rebounder for the last three seasons, to graduation. "I am thrilled that we found a center so late in the recruiting season," WSSU head coach Dee Stokes said, Monday. "I am thrilled that we found a center so late in the recruiting season."
Campbell's signing was fortunate for the Lady Rams, who came to know about Campbell late in the recruiting season. "She played at an event in the Raleigh area during our last time to be out seeing recruits, and sometimes it is better to be lucky than good," Stokes added. "Nora obviously brings us some much needed size in the paint. This signing caps a great recruiting year for the Lady Rams."
With the addition of Campbell, the Lady Rams hat totaled 10 signees for the 2007 signing season.
