Lady Rams Announce 2008-09 schedule

Aug. 14, 2008

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Winston-Salem State University women's basketball head coach Dee Stokes announced the team's 2008-09 schedule, Wednesday afternoon. The schedule will feature a number of tough, exciting games for the Lady Rams squad that competed for most of last season with an all-freshman roster.

"I feel that we have a very competitive schedule early and should be tested right away. We are excited about this season with the return of Keoshia Worthy from an ACL tear and six freshmen from a year ago who played all the minutes on our team," WSSU women's basketball head coach Dee Stokes said. "We are also ready for the debut of six freshmen along with MaLisa Bumpus, a transfer from James Madison University who will be eligible after the fall. We are looking forward to a much improved team."

The upcoming season will see the Lady Rams play a tough schedule including games against some of the top teams on the east coast. The Lady Rams will open the season at the Ises Cancer Awareness Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Elon University on Friday, November 14th. The Lady Rams will face the host Phoenix on day one of the tournament. Lady Ram fans won't have long to wait before seeing the team as the Lady Rams will open home court on November 19th when the team will take on the U.S. Naval Academy Midshipmen. The team will remain in Winston-Salem for its next match-up, a November 24th contest against the hometown rival Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

The Lady Rams will play a complete schedule of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference games, though the team will not count in the MEAC standings. The team will get its first taste of conference play when they head to Orangeburg, S.C. to take on the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs. Last season, the Lady Rams ended the 2007-08 with a 64-58 win over the Lady Bulldogs. Highlighting the team's conference schedule will be a pair of games against the 2007-08 MEAC Regular Season Champion North Carolina A&T Lady Aggies. The two teams will square off on January 24th in Winston-Salem, NC before heading to Greensboro, NC for their second meeting of the season on February 21st.

For the second season in a row, the Lady Rams will host a "Think Pink" game when the team hosts former CIAA rival North Carolina Central on February 11th.
