DURHAM, NC –The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (47-43) struggled to open the post-season when the team went winless on the opening day of the 2014 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Bowling Championship Tournament, Friday. Though the team gave some solid overall efforts, the Lady Rams could not find their way into the win column on the opening day of the tournament.
The Lady Rams opened the day with a pair of close losses, falling to Elizabeth City State (718-696). The effort was followed by a heartbreaking 702-697 loss to Virginia Union. From there, the team continued to struggle with an 842-816 loss to Bowie State and an 804-651 loss to Virginia State. The team went on to close out the day with a tough 817-713 loss to Saint Augustine's.
The losses came in spite of some strong individual efforts by the Lady Rams as the team totaled 3,573 pins and placed sixth in total pins. WSSU senior Raven Forrest led the way with 799 total pins on the day, including a team-high 178 against Virginia State.
The Lady Rams will continue their pursuit of the conference title tomorrow when the team takes part in Baker games play, followed by the double-elimination round of the tournament.
