Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Department of Athletics has announced Monday that Lashonda Horton (Jr./5'11"/Greenville, NC) and Jerrick "Jed" Bines (Fr./6'0"/200/Winston-Salem, NC) have been selected as the Crown Trophy-WSSU Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 19th, 2003.
Horton, a junior member of the WSSU women's bowling team, as well as being an All-CIAA selection at forward on the Lady Rams basketball team, has been selected for her performance this past weekend as she helped the Lady Rams post a 16-8 overall record in cross-divisional bowling matches at AMF Capital Lanes in Raleigh, NC. The Lady Rams, due in part to Horton's performance, remain in first place in the CIAA Western Division, and in the CIAA Overall with an overall record of 44-10.
Bines, a true freshman running-back from Winston-Salem, NC had his breakout performance of the season on Saturday, as he helped to lead the Rams to a 42-23 road victory over CIAA rival Livingstone College. The former Parkland High School star tallied 163 yards on 16 carries and scored his first two touchdowns of the season as the Rams coasted to victory over the Blue Bears.
