Winston-Salem, NC - Winston-Salem State University running back Martin Hicks (Jr./Oxford, NC) and women's bowler Lashonda Horton have been named the WSSU Crown Trophy Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 9th, 2004.
In front of the home crowd at Bowman-Gray Stadium, Hicks racked up 160 yards on 22 carries and scored a pair of touchdowns as the Rams handed the Blue Bears of Livingstone College a 31-21 CIAA league football defeat. For his efforts he has been named both the Crown Trophy Student-Athlete of the Week and the CIAA's Offensive Back of the Week.
Horton helped to lead the Lady Rams' bowling team to a second place finish in the Western Division Bowling Challenge this past weekend as she helped the Lady Rams earn a 10-5 overall record. She led the Lady Rams in pinfall for seven of ten matches over the weekend, registering a 225 game on Saturday. For her efforts she has been named the WSSU-Crown Trophy Female Student Athlete of the Week.
