WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (23-16, 14-1 CIAA) recorded their fourth straight shutout win, Saturday afternoon when the team took an 11-0 win over the Saint Augustine's Lady Falcons (12-21, 8-8 CIAA). The Lady Rams took the win behind some great play both offensively and defensively.
The Lady Rams recorded 13 total hits in the game while holding the Lady Falcons to just three hits in the game. WSSU junior infielder Tiffany Burgess led the way for the Lady Rams with a two-for-three effort at the plate with two runs scored and three RBI. She also added a solo home run in the game as well. Fellow junior Nikki Lynch added a two-for-four effort with a run scored and two RBI.
WSSU got their scoring ways started early with six first inning runs. The team added just one second inning run on an RBI double by Lynch. The team followed the effort with an two-RBI double by sophomore Shantel Haskins in the third inning. It was in the fourth inning that Burgess hit a solo home run, followed by an RBI sacrifice groundout by freshman Tireka Brooks.
WSSU sophomore pitcher Yasmin Lee took home the pitching win, starting the game, and going three innings and allowing just two hits with two strikeouts and a walk. WSSU freshman Monet Daly added a pair of innings with just one hit allowed and a strikeout.
The Lady Rams will close out the 2012 regular season tomorrow morning when the team takes on the Johnson C. Smith Lady Golden Bulls in a 9:00 a.m. single game.
