RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (22-16, 13-1 CIAA) took their third straight shutout win, Saturday morning when the team took a 20-0 road win over the Saint Augustine's Lady Falcons (12-20, 8-7 CIAA). WSSU took the win behind a stellar pitching performance by Lady Rams junior pitcher Brittany Lane, who threw a perfect game in the victory.
Lane (6-4) and the Lady Rams allowed no hits and no errors in the game. Lane recorded 10 strikeouts in the game with no walks as well. The effort marked the second time that Lane has recorded a perfect game in her career as she recorded another perfect game last season.
Offensively, the Lady Rams had also had a stellar performance, scoring 20 runs in the game. WSSU took advantage of eight fielding errors by the Lady Falcons to scored 11 unearned runs to accompany the team's nine earned runs. WSSU sophomore outfielder Tanaya Pettus had the best effort for the Lady Rams with a three-for-four effort at the plate with three RBI and four runs scored. WSSU freshman catcher Bria Jones added a two-for-three effort at the plate with three RBI and a run scored. Both Pettus and Jones recorded doubles in the game as well.
