WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (31-17) showed their power in a 10-2 win over the Surry Community College Knights (18-22), Saturday afternoon. The Lady Rams scored nine runs in the final two innings to score the win against the tough and talented Knights.
The Lady Rams recorded 10 runs on 10 hits in the game, including two home runs. WSSU freshman outfielder Francesca Edgerton led the way for the Lady Rams with a two-for-three effort at the plate with a grand slam home run and five RBI in the game. Junior infielder Nikki Lynch added a one-for-three effort at the plate with three RBI and a run scored, including a three-run home run.
The Lady Rams got off to a slow start, allowing a first inning run to the Knights, but the Lady Rams were able to answer with a second inning run. It was in the fourth inning when the Lady Rams scored seven runs, including a grand-slam home run by Edgerton, followed by a three-run home run by Lynch.
WSSU junior pitcher Brittany Lane (13-4) took the pitching win, going all five innings with six hits allowed and just two earned runs scored. She also added four strikeouts with no walks.
