Six Lady Rams Named to 2012 All-CIAA Team

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – After posting a 15-1 record in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and a perfect 10-0 record in the CIAA Southern Diivision, the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams softball team was honored as several of its members were named to the 2012 All-CIAA team as well as the 2012 CIAA All-Rookie Team.

In all, six of the Winston-Salem State Lady Rams earned All-CIAA honors with the junior tandem of pitcher Brittany Lane and infielder Britney Cato earning first team honors. Lane earned the honor after leading the conference with a 2.50 earned run average (ERA). She accomplished the feat after nearly posting back-to-back perfect games last week. Joining her on the first team All-CIAA team is junior utility player Britney Cato, who is currently ranked 10th in the CIAA with a .402 batting average and is 12th in the conference in RBI.

Four Winston-Salem State Lady Rams earned spots on the 2012 All-CIAA second team with freshman outfielder Brittany Rich, sophomore designated player Andreya O’Brien, junior first baseman Artreya Jernigan, and junior third baseman Nikki Lynch all earning second team All-CIAA honors.

Several Lady Rams players also earned spots on the 2012 CIAA All-Rookie team as Rich, freshman second baseman Monet Daly, and freshman catcher Bria Jones all earned spots on the team.

The Lady Rams have completed the 2012 regular season and will begin defense of their CIAA championship when the team takes part in the 2012 CIAA Softball Championship Tournament in Petersburg, Va., Thursday. The 2012 CIAA Southern Division champion Lady Rams will head into the tournament as the top seeds after going 15-1 in conference play and a perfect 10-0 in the CIAA Southern Division.
