WSSU's Lane, Hilliard-Gray Earn CIAA Weekly Honors

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams capped a fantastic week when WSSU junior pitcher Brittany Lane was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Pitcher of the Week while head coach Lataya Hilliard-Gray was named the CIAA Coach of the Week. The duo took home the honors after the Lady Rams went a perfect 4-0 for the week and did not allow an opponent run to cross the plate.

Lane had a fantastic pitching week for the Lady Rams with a perfect 2-0 record that saw her allow no hits and no runs in two games. She capped the week in style with a perfect game at Saint Augustine’s that saw her record 10 strikeouts. The effort was nearly Lane’s second perfect game of the week, but the Shaw Lady Bears were able to get a walk.

Hilliard-Gray led the Lady Rams to four wins during the week and claimed their second straight CIAA Southern Division Championship. All five wins came in five-inning shutout victories. With the effort, the Lady Rams will head into the 2012 CIAA Softball Championships with a large head of steam.
