WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (25-17) made a great effort, but the team struggled in a tough 8-3 loss to the Brevard College Tornados (15-29), Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Rams were able to get six hits in the game, but could only manage three runs in the tough non-conference loss.
As a team, the Lady Rams totaled six hits in the game with sophomore Monet Daly going three-for-three at the plate with two runs scored, an RBI, and a home run. Three more WSSU players added one hit each in the game.
WSSU struck first in the game when Daly scored on Brevard fielding error. After allowing three BC runs in the second inning, the Lady Rams bounced back with a run of their own when senior pitcher Brittany Lane hit an RBI single up the middle to score fellow senior Shantel Haskins to cut the deficit to one run, 3-2. Things continued to break down for the Lady Rams in the third inning when the team allowed three more Brevard runs in the third inning to fall behind 6-2.
The Lady Rams allowed two more runs in the fourth inning. The team attempted a rally as Daly hit a solo home run that left the team trailing 8-3. Though both teams continued to be strong at the plate, they were equally strong in the field with neither team managing a score as the Lady Rams took the tough loss.
The Lady Rams will return to action, Saturday when the team hosts the Chowan Hawks in a 1:30 p.m. single game at Washington Park. For more information on Lady Rams softball, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 7502143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
