INSTITUTE, WV – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (28-21) faded late in a tough 3-1 loss to the West Virginia State Yellowjackets (39-11), Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Rams took control early with a 1-0 lead, but allowed three sixth-inning runs to the Yellowjackets to end the day with the loss.
As a team, the Lady Rams managed six hits in the game with one run scored. Six WSSU players managed one hit each in the game. Junior short stop Tanaya Pettus recorded the sole RBI in the game while sophomore catcher Bria Jones scored the sole run.
Pettus struck for the Lady Rams in the fourth inning when she hit an RBI single that drove in Jones. In the sixth inning, however, the Lady Rams allowed three straight RBI hits to the Yellowjackets to take the tough loss.
WSSU junior Yasmin Lee (9-8) took the pitching loss, going all six innings with six hits allowed and three earned runs allowed. She also allowed just one walk.
