CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams softball team earned a pair of honors after a great week as WSSU junior second base Daijah Chambers was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Defensive Player of the Week while freshman first base Aniyah Jones was named the CIAA Rookie of the Week. The Rams took home the honors after going 3-1 for the week.
One of the key components of the Rams' strong play was the team's stellar defensive efforts that were led by Chambers. She took home the honor after some stellar play at second base. She finished the week with 11 putouts and nine assists with no errors in four games.
While Chambers was most effective on defense, it was Jones' offensive performances that brought home her honor. She finished the week with a .583 batting average, going seven-for-12 at the plate with two home runs, a double, and a triple. She scored two runs with two RBI.
The Rams will return to action, Friday, when the team heads to nearby Salisbury, N.C. to take on the Livingstone College Blue Bears. The team will then head to Orangeburg, S.C. to take on the Claflin Panthers in a meeting between the top two teams in the CIAA.
