May 2, 2016 Rams Earn Eighth Seed at 2016 NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Winston-Salem State Rams (30-21) will have their work cut out for them as the team earned the fourth seed in the upcoming NCAA Division II Atlantic 1 Regional Softball Tournament. The team earned the eighth-ranking overall in the region and will take on the top-seeded host West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats to kick off the post-season.
April 30, 2016 Rams Claim 2016 CIAA Softball Championship with 5-4 Win Over Chowan RALEIGH, NC – Winston-Salem State (30-21) claimed the 2016 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Championship when junior short stop Rebecca Demko hit a walk off RBI single in the seventh inning to claim their second championship in the last three seasons. The clutch play gave the Rams a 5-4 win over the Chowan Hawks (29-14) in the 2016 CIAA Softball Championship Game.
April 29, 2016 Rams Advance to 2016 CIAA Softball Championship Game with 11-0 Win Over Bowie State RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (29-21) played some stellar defense in an 11-0 win over the Bowie State Lady Bulldogs (15-21) to advance to the championship game of the 2016 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Championship Tournament. WSSU junior Mercedes Hargett pitched the Rams to the win after nearly pitching a perfect game to take the victory.
April 28, 2016 Clutch Hitting Pushes Rams to 3-2 Upset Win Over Chowan at 2016 CIAA Softball Championship Tournament RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (28-21) used some clutch hitting to claim an upset win at the 2016 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Championship Tournament, Thursday afternoon. After taking a 1-1 tie into the sixth inning, the Rams added two runs and held the regular season champion Lady Hawks to just one run to claim the win on the opening day of the double-elimination tournament.
April 28, 2016 Rams Open 2016 CIAA Softball Tournament with 11-2 Win Over Virginia Union RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (27-21) softball team got the post season to a hot start when the team took an 11-2 win over the Virginia Union Lady Panthers (15-15), Thursday morning. The Rams took the win with a blazing hot batting performance on the day as the team scored 11 runs on 12 hits in the game. While the Rams’ offense stole, the show the team played some solid defense as well, holding VUU to just two hits.
April 28, 2016 Hargett, Carillo Named to All-CIAA Team; Two Rams Named to CIAA All-Rookie Team CHARLOTTE, NC – The honors came in for the Winston-Salem State Rams softball team, Thursday afternoon. The Winston-Salem State duo of junior pitcher Mercedes Hargett and sophomore catcher were both named to the All-CIAA team while the freshman duo of utility Destiny Snipes and second Jasmine Holloman were both named to CIAA All-Rookie team.
