2008: Made the switch from infielder to the outfield last season...Played in 17 games with nine starts...Finished the season with a .316 batting average and a .435 on base percentage...Added four RBI and had a triple...Had a great game at Coppin State with a 2-for-3 effort from the plate...Did not record a fielding error for the entire season.
2007: Elyon was enjoying a solid season before being slowed by injuries...She started in 23 games playing mostly at the catcher position with knee injuries slowing forcing a move to the outfield...She batted .189 with 10 hits in 53 at bats...She had three RBI with a triple...Was great as a catcher with 131 putouts...And a .979 fielding percentage with only three errors...Also added just 11 passed balls...Also added a .283 on-base percentage.
2006: Elyon Taylor had a great season as a freshman at Winston-Salem State ... Her efforts last season earned her a spot on the CIAA All-Rookie team ... She started in 40 of the team's 41 games in 2006 finishing second on the team in batting with a .368 average ... For the season, she totaled 46 hits in 125 at bats ... She also finished second on the team in runs batted in with 35, two behind team leader Amber Shore ... Elyon also finished second on the team in putouts with 186 total put outs and 44 assists .... Also had a great fielding percentage of .970 primarily playing at the crucial catcher position ... As a catcher, she also caught 16 runner stealing with just 20 passed balls for the season ... For the season, Taylor had a .488 slugging percentage with a .432 on base percentage.
Personal: A native of Detroit, MI, Taylor is a 2005 graduate of Detroit Renaissance High School, the same high school as former WSSU softball superstars Heather and Shannon Davis. An All-City, All-District, All-Region, and All-State selection while in high school, earning all honors at least twice. She led her high school team to three city championships (2002, 2003, and 2005) ... She also led the team to district and Regional championships in 2003. The daughter of Garrard and Debbie Taylor, Taylor is an English major at WSSU. Born in Detroit, MI on November 12, 1987.
