Orangeburg, SC - The Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State University did not have a good first day on the diamond on Friday afternoon as they dropped their second straight game of the afternoon, falling to Armstrong Atlantic State University by the score of 19-0 in the second game of the 2005 Claflin College Softball Invitational in Orangeburg, SC.
Trying to improve their record to 1-1 overall after falling in defeat in the first game of the 2005 season by losing a 22-0 decision to Savannah College of Art and Design, the Lady Rams again used the tandem pitching efforts of SaRhonda Hawkins and Shannon Davis versus Armstrong Atlantic.
However, it would be walks and errors that would once again lead to defeat for WSSU as Armstrong Atlantic State put 19 runs on the scoreboard en route to a 19-0 white-washing of the Lady Rams.
SaRhonda Hawkins was saddled with her second loss of the season despite pitching deep into the fourth inning. She would be replaced by Shannon Davis who would surrender only five runs on the afternoon in her second relief appearance of the day.
With the loss, the Lady Rams fall to 0-2 on the season and will return to action at 10:00 AM on Saturday to Albany State University in another non-conference softball match-up.
