Lady Rams Drop Decision To Coker 10-3 In Non-Conference Softball Action

Feb. 4, 2006

Final Stats

Orangeburg, SC - The Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams softball team fell to 0-1 overall on the season (0-0 CIAA) on Friday afternoon as they fell in defeat 10-3 in non-conference softball action to Coker College in first-round play from the Claflin Softball Tournament in Orangeburg, SC.

The Lady Rams jumped out to an early 3-0 lead which they held until the bottom of the fifth inning when Coker College came to life en route to 10 runs and the 10-3 win.

Despite the loss, the Lady Rams' first action was extremely positive as head coach LaTaya Hilliard-Gray expressed her pleasure with the WSSU bats, saying, "Even though we took the loss, our ladies played very well, and we hit nicely as a team.  We committed a couple of errors, as is to be expected when this is your first action of the season, but we played well, and this is a positive building block for the upcoming conference contests."

WSSU will return to action on Saturday as they play at 10:30 AM, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm in second-day tournament action.
