Columbia, SC - The weather outside was an unfriendly drizzle and the temperature was cold, but Benedict College was an even more un-hospitable host to the Lady Rams as they cruised to a 9-0 victory over Winston-Salem State in five innings as the Lady Rams dropped their 2004 softball season opener.
The Lady Rams, who were opening their season nearly a full month earlier than last year, came out flat and we never able to recover.
Saddled with the loss was Heather Davis (Sr./5'11"/P/Detroit, MI). Davis, who posted an 11-4 record last season, gave up nine runs on 14 hits in five innings of work.
With the loss the Lady Rams fall to 0-1 on the season (0-0 CIAA) and return to action tomorrow when they travel to Orangeburg, SC to face Claflin in a pair of softball contests beginning at 2:30 pm.
