WSSU Shocked 13-5 In Five Innings In Second Half Of Double-Header With NCCU

Feb. 10, 2007

Final Stats

DURHAM, NC - The second game of a non-conference softball doubleheader with North Carolina Central University would prove to be a shock for the young Lady Rams as they dropped a 13-5 decision that took only five innings of play as Winston-Salem State University fell to 0-2 on the season.

Despite big-hitting performances from freshmen Devyn Giellette, Whitney Hall and Georgette Twitty, the Lady Rams would cross home plate only five times as they came up short to the Lady Eagles 13-5.

"Young players.  That is what the story of this second game was.  We got some clutch hitting from Devyn [Giellette}, Whitney [Hall] and Georgette [Twitty] but we couldn't put it together.  We had 10 errors in a two-inning span and that killed us.  We will continue to move forward and will learn from this as we continue to improve.  We have the ability to be a very good team" WSSU head coach Lataya Hilliard Gray said in post-game interviews.

WSSU freshman pitcher Ashley Boswell was saddled with the loss despite giving up only 5 earned runs.  She drops to 0-1 on the season with the loss.

The defeat drops the Lady Rams to 0-2 on the season while the Eagles improve to 2-0 overall.  WSSU returns to action on February 17, 2007 as they play host to the Lady Pirates of Hampton University at Southpark Field.  The first game of the twin-bill begins at 2:00 pm.
