The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (0-3) took a heartbreaking loss to the Hampton Lady Pirates (1-0), Saturday in the first game of doubleheader action. The Lady Rams matched Hampton hit for hit in the contest, but fell victim to a seventh-inning Pirate rally.

The Lady Rams opened the contest on a high note jumping out to an early 3-0 lead on an RBI double by sophomore pitcher Amber Shore and a two-RBI double by senior outfielder L'Tisha Bell. Hampton would answer, however, scoring five unanswered runs to take the lead. The Lady Pirates struck first in the fourth inning with a pair of runs, followed by three seventh-inning runs that sealed the WSSU loss.

The loss was the team's third loss in a row to open the season, while Hampton improved to 1-0.
