Lady Rams Rally for 8-7 Win Over Morgan State

Feb. 18, 2007

Box Score

The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (1-4) showed their heart Sunday afternoon battling back from six runs down to score an 8-7 win over the Morgan State Lady Bears (1-2), Sunday afternoon at South Park Field. The Lady Rams matched a big Morgan State fourth inning with a pair of big innings of their own to pull out the win.

The Lady Rams had some great play on both sides of the ball scoring 14 hits with just two errors in the win, while allowing just five Morgan State hits in the contest. Sophomore catcher Elyon Taylor had a huge game going 3-for-4 from the plate with an RBI and run scored in the win.

The Lady Rams fell behind early with Morgan State jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. However, sophomore pitcher Amber Shore hit an RBI double in the third inning to tie the game. However, Morgan State would answer in a big way scoring six runs in the fourth inning to jump ahead, 7-1. Trailing by six runs, the WSSU offense came alive scoring three runs in the next inning, scoring on a MSU wild pitch, followed by an RBI single by Sutton. Another Morgan State wild pitch would close the WSSU deficit to just three runs for the Lady Rams.

With the game within reach, the WSSU defense tightened keeping the Lady Bears scoreless while the Lady Ram offense went to work in the fifth inning. A single through the left side by freshman outfielder Whitney Hall drove in another WSSU run while freshman outfielder Devyn Gillette hit an RBI triple to center field. The Lady Rams went on to score another run on a Morgan State throwing error that tied the game 7-7 with two innings left to play.  A Taylor RBI single to left field in the sixth inning proved to be the game winner for the Lady Rams.

The win was the Lady Rams' first of the season and gave the team a 1-3 record at South Park Field this season.
